Of Special Interest for Lapidary Rockhounds Fossil or Mineral Collectors This pack contains sufficient material to make between 15 and 20 stands for specimens between 2" X 1" to 4" X 2.5".
Mineral, crystal, gemstone and slab stands are commonly made from moulded thermoplastics or may be laser cut and formed from materials such as polyester, styrene, acrylic and Perepex.
Easy to Mold is a mouldable thermoplastic which can be quickly and easily shaped by hand to conform to the shape of the base of your mineral, fossil, crystal, gemstone or slab.
Because you mould or shape the stand yourself, you are saving money. Mineral stands usually require expensive equipment to mass produce them but, Easy to Mold is easily shaped by hand..

Get creative with this amazing moldable plastic. Amazing hand moldable Thermoplastic - Incredible Strength.
A low melting temperature of 170° Fahrenheit making it hand moldable plastic ideal for modeling, prototyping, testing, manufacture and craft applications.
This thermoplastic material is one of a new generation of commercial polymers set to have a major impact on model making, arts and crafts and prototyping. This polymer has all the characteristics of a tough 'engineering' material yet it fuses and becomes easily moldable at just 170° Fahrenheit. It can be heated with just hot water or a hairdryer and molded by hand to create prototypes and solve manufacturing problems currently outside the capacity of other materials.
Some uses for this product include:
Model making Armatures / frames for models Specialized components - e.g. motor mountings Sculpturing Joining components together Emergency repairs Craft work / jewelry making casings & enclosures Vacuum forming molds Molds for batch producing other moldings Prototype mechanical parts Molding of handles Inserts for compliant products Molding of complete products - e.g. torches Orthopedic appliance making material- (First aid securing splints, emergency castings etc.)

This amazing material is very simple to use. The following instructions show how to heat using hot water. The material can also be heated with a hairdryer. This is a safer method, but may take longer.
1. Heat some water and pour into a non metallic heat resistant container. The water must be at a temperature greater than 170°F
2. Carefully pour the required amount of material into the container.
3. After a few seconds, the granules will begin to turn transparent and will start to fuse together. When all of the granules appear clear and colorless, carefully remove from the water with a spoon.
CAUTION! Take great care not to scald yourself! the plastic will retain some hot water
4. Wait for the molten material to cool a little, then squeeze any trapped water out, and knead the plastic to ensure it has fused together evenly. The softened plastic is now ready to use.

Frequently asked questions...
Q. Can the material be reused? A. Yes! simply reheat using hot water or a hairdryer.
Q. Can this plastic be painted or dyed? A. Yes! it is resistant to most solvents, and most spray paint adheres well. If dying, one which will bond to plastics must be used.
Q. While molten what is it's consistency like? - water? jelly? play dough? A. Like blue tack, but slightly rubbery.
Q. How long does it take to set after being melted? A. A couple of minutes, but this can be prolonged by using hot water/air or shortened by immersing in cold water.
Q. What's it's insulation breakdown voltage? A. Approx. 1.5KV/Inch.
Q. How strong is it when set? A. VERY! it has similar properties to nylon.
Q. What color is it? A. When set, it takes on an opaque, milky white appearance.
Q. What's it's surface texture like? A. It depends how you work it - it will make a perfect impression of anything it touches. The surface can be burnished with glass for a gloss finish, or something like paper for a matte finish.
Q. When set, can it be drilled? A. Yes! you can drill, file and saw it, as you would with most other plastics.
