The first binocular telescope (binoculars), consisting of two telescopes placed side by side, was constructed in 1608 by Johann Lipperhey. Around 1645 Capuchin Cherubin d'Orleans made large high powered binoculars and smaller ones of lower power for war. His contribution that lasts to today was the ability to adjust the interval between the eyes of the user. The first mass marketing of binoculars was under taken by J. P. Lemiere in Paris around 1823.
